Robert Goddard Event - 28/3/18

Robert Goddard proved to be very popular with our regular audience - our event with him at the end of March was a complete sell out!

Robert, who was recently described by the Guardian as as "the world's greatest storyteller", came to Penarth to talk about his latest book 'Panic Room', which focuses on Blake, a young woman with a sketchy backstory who takes up residence in an abandoned house on a Cornish cliff and then discovers the house has some secrets of its own.

In his interview with Mel, Robert not only spoke about the new book and his process of researching and writing it (he had quite a few audience questions about how he came to know so much about panic rooms!). He also spoke about how he got into writing - he told a great story about reading the newspaper aloud to his grandparents as a child, and slowly but surely embellishing all the stories. He had the audience in fits of laughter when he said his grandmother was only slightly shocked at the number of murders going on in their small town in Hampshire.

One audience member told Robert "every book you've written has been a wonderful, wonderful treat".

After the talk, the audience had a chance to buy copies of 'Panic Room' and other books from Robert's back list and have them signed.

Overall it was a brilliant evening and we had lots of great feedback in person and on social media.

Thanks as ever to the team at Waterloo Tea Penarth for helping everything to run smoothly.
