Welsh Poets in Fact and Fiction

All Saints Church, Victoria Square, Penarth, CF64 3EH

This event will see two local authors discuss two famous figures from Welsh literary history – Iolo Morganwg and Hedd Wyn. Gareth Thomas and Phil Carradice will discuss the lives and works of the two poets and process of creating fiction out of fact.

Gareth Thomas worked in England as an actor, teacher and arts centre director for forty years before moving back to Wales in 2011. He fell in love with the landscape and history of the Vale of Glamorgan, and this is how he discovered Iolo Morganwg, an obsession which led to ‘I,Iolo’ an imaginative recreation of the life of the Cowbridge literary genius and inventor of the Gorsedd of Bards. This novel is also published in a Welsh edition ‘Myfi,Iolo’.

Phil Carradice is a freelance writer, consultant and broadcaster. He regularly holds creative writings workshops in various schools, colleges and societies. A former teacher and headteacher, he hails from Pembroke Dock, but now lives in the Vale of Glamorgan. He has written many books on many topics, but 'The Black Chair' is his only fictionalised work based on the life of Hedd Wyn.

Tickets for this event are £5.
