Last Monday we had the great pleasure to hold an event with former Welsh International Lee Byrne.
Lee has recently released his autobiography 'The Byrne Identity', co-written with Richard Morgan, who also attended the event, and he discussed it with former Newport player and his former teacher, Phil Steele.

Having known each other for a long time, the talk between Lee and Phil was very natural, and Phil had lots of interesting stories about Lee as a boy. The two men talked about life before, during, and after rugby, all peppered with different issues. Lee talked about how he managed in school with dyslexia, always finding refuge in sport, and both Lee and Phil, whose book 'Nerves of Steele' was published last year by St. David's Press, spoke about their struggles with mental health post-rugby. This added a new dimension to their conversation, as men's mental health is not always a topic that is widely discussed.

After the event, everyone had a chance to buy copies of the books and have them signed by Lee and Phil. As you can see, they did a lot of signing!
Overall, it was a great event and we enoyed it a lot. A big thank you to everyone at the Old Pens RFC for making it all very easy, and to Lee and Phil themselves!
Sadly this is our last event of the year, but we'll be back in 2018 to bring you lots of exciting things. See you then!
