In-person events with Griffin Books

We've had another successful Autumn of events, except this time we're back in person with all our lovely customers and plenty of amazing authors.

Our first in-person event was an evening with Alun Wyn Jones at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff, where we hosted over 300 guests. As one of the most successful rugby players of all time, and a notoriously private man, it was a treat to hear Alun Wyn talk about his career and life with such candour, and everyone went away with a signed copy of his autobiography Belonging

The week after, we hosted debut author Annie Garthwaite as she discussed her new novel Cecily, based on the life of the Duchess of York.

All Saints Church was the perfect location to hear all about this beautiful historical novel, and the guests thoroughly enjoyed their cream tea whilst listening to the interview.

Two weeks later we had the pleasure of being one of the bookshops included in Robin Ince's 100 Bookshops Tour. We hosted Robin in the beautiful surroundings of Penarth Pier Pavilion, as he talked all about his latest book The Importance of Being Interested, in which he reveals why scientific wonder isn't just for the professionals and why many wrongly think of the discipline as distant and difficult.

At the end of October we were delighted to host author Nadifa Mohamed as she discussed her Booker Shortlisted novel The Fortune Men, based around the story of Mahmood Matan, the last man hanged in Cardiff prison. It was an honour to hear Mahmood's story, set in Tiger Bay in the 50s, in present-day Cardiff Bay.

At the beginning of November we then hosted Karen Maitland, historical crime novelist. We were back in the surroundings of All Saints Church, hearing all about Karen's latest novel The Drowned City, the first book in a new series, set in the aftermath of a failed Gunpowder Plot.
